Rotten trim, loose treads, damaged planks

SnapWork makes small wood repairs: cutting out a small area of dry rot on trim or siding and filling or replacing it, swapping a few damaged floor planks with matching flooring you supply, tightening or replacing a loose stair tread or handrail section, and laying click-together plank flooring in one small room. Structural rot in posts, beams or framing is not part of it. We work across Napa County and Solano County.

Catch rot early

Rot starts where water sits: window sills, the bottom of door frames, trim near the ground, and siding behind downspouts. Small spots can be cut out and patched. Left alone, it spreads into the framing.

Fix the water too

Rot comes back if the water does. After the repair, keep the area painted and caulked. Old caulk around windows is a common cause; see window sealing.

Floors and stairs

A cracked or lifted plank can often be swapped without redoing the floor. Keep leftover planks from the original install. Loose stair treads and wobbly railings are a safety fix worth doing soon.

What to photograph

  • The damaged spot, close up, with something for scale
  • The whole wall, floor or stair around it
  • A screwdriver pushed into the soft wood, if you can, to show how deep it goes

Questions people ask

How much does dry rot repair cost?

It depends on how much wood is soft and where it is, so we price it from your photo. You see the price before you book.

How do I know if it's dry rot?

Push a screwdriver into the wood. If it sinks in easily or the wood crumbles, it's rot. Paint often hides it until it's soft.

Do you do structural rot?

No. Rot in posts, beams or framing is structural and needs a licensed contractor.

Can you lay a new floor?

Click-together laminate or vinyl plank in one small room, yes. Larger floors may need a licensed contractor, so we price them from your photo.
